Easily Creating Favicons for Blogger Blogs

Why might you want a favicon? Having a favicon on your website or blog tab helps users easily navigate back to your site when they have several tabs open. A favicon can be an important part of your branding. Note: on some browsers, favicons only show after a user has bookmarked your site.

On this blog, I've chosen to keep the original Blogger favicon, but here are some examples of favicons I've created for other blogs and sites:

How to Make a Favicon Using the Free Favicon Generator

One of my favourite free tools for easily creating a favicon is found on the favicon generator. website. While there are instructions on the free favicon generator website, they might be a little daunting and more than you actually need, because installing a favicon on a Blogger blog can be done easily and quickly. No coding required.

  1. Decide on an image you will choose for your favicon. Choose a simple image that will get easily viewed in a miniature square space. It needs to be in one of these file formats: png, jpg, jpeg or gif. If you do not create the image yourself, it is important to obey copyright rules.  There are some websites that have images you can use for free that are in the public domain such as Dreamstime. After you have downloaded the image you wish to miniaturize into a favicon, you are ready for step 2.
  2. Open the free favicon generator website Here.
  3. Click the green "Choose image to upload" button on the bottom left corner of the free favicon generator box.
